Ryde Esplanade station is located at the end of the pier, right on the sea-front and within an easy walk from the town centre with its bars, shops and hotels. The line is very busy in the summer tourist season, although it is but a shadow of the former network on the Island. The reason for the use of ex-London Underground tube trains is the low tunnel at Ryde St. Johns.
